We proposed a framework to investigate the time and energy cost for controlling of complex nonlinear networks. We articulate a finite-time, closed-loop controller with an eye toward the physical and mathematical underpinnings of the trade-off between the control time and energy as well as their dependence on the network parameters and structure. To ensure that our framework is physically significant, we focus on the control energy and the time required to achieve control and investigate their tradeoff. Analytically, we derive rigorous upper bounds for both the control energy and time. We study how network parameters and structure affect the control time and energy and test the control framework using a variety of real biophysical systems including stem cell differentiation, food webs, random ecosystems, and neuronal networks. Firstly, we demonstrate that our closed-loop controller can drive two different cell fates to the critical expression level to enable stem cells to remaster their cell fate for cellular differentiation. Then, we demonstrate that our control method can successfully restore the nonlinear ecosystems out of extinction to a sustainable state. Furthermore, we apply the proposed approach to control the large ecosystems with random and mixture interactions. Finally, we show our closed-loop controller is also effective for realizing synchronization in nonlinear neuronal networks These results suggest that to develop closed-loop control with optimized control time and energy not only is fundamental to the network control field but also has applied values.

四、主讲人简介

孙永征,教授,中国矿业大学数学学院科研副院长,江苏省数学学会理事,中国工业与应用数学学会复杂网络与复杂系统专业委员会委员,中国矿业大学优秀青年骨干教师,青年学术带头人。2010年毕业于复旦大学数学科学学院获理学博士学位。多次应邀到复旦大学数学科学学院、牛津大学数学研究所、剑桥大学牛顿数学研究所、利兹大学数学学院访问。主要研究兴趣:复杂网络同步与控制,多智能体网络一致性,随机微分方程定性与稳定性,生物数学、混沌同步等。以第一作者及通讯作者在Physical Review Letters, SIAM Journal on Applied Mathematics, Chaos, Physical Review E,IEEE Transactions on Circuits and Systems,International Journal of Control等数学、物理、控制及非线性领域著名国际学术期刊发表SCI检索论文40余篇,出版专著1部。
